Apple's next iOS update takes a crack at solving the overheating issues on the iPhone 15 Pro.
As reported by MacRumors, iOS update 17.1 will address the iPhone 15 Pro series' issue with overheating. In a statement to both MacRumors and Forbes, an Apple spokesperson said the overheating problems are due to "a few conditions", such as the first few days after setting up or restoring the device due to "increased background activity", while also pointing out a bug in the software along with issues with "recent updates to third-party apps".
While Apple did not specify which apps were causing the iPhone 15 Pro to run hot, Bloomberg reports a spokesperson for the iPhone maker specifically mentioned Instagram and the mobile racing game Asphalt 9: Legends as examples of why these particular phones are running "warmer than usual".
Overheating issues on the iPhone 15 Pro have surfaced since the phone's release over a week ago. Some users reported temperatures to be as high as 116.6 degrees Fahrenheit. Another point of concern was that if software updates circumvent the issues, they could possibly throttle performance. Apple denied this to Forbes, despite some, including well-known supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kou, suggesting it was a possibility.
In IGN's iPhone 15 Pro review we noted the device does get warm, but that "it was nowhere near as hot as the iPhone 14 Pro got when [Jaron] tried to play Star Rail with the same settings".
The iPhone 15 Pro uses an A17 Pro chip made with the 3nm process and features a six-core GPU. Apple has heavily touted the new chip featured in the iPhone 15 Pro smartphones, noting that these devices are powerful enough to run console-quality games like Resident Evil Village.
