Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodhunt's Sharkmob has announced Exoborne, an open world extraction shooter set in a post-apocalyptic United States beset by extreme weather.

Exoborne was revealed at The Game Awards 2023 and is currently in development for both PC and consoles but has no release date or window. What we did learn, however, is that Exoborne will not be free-to-play and will instead be a premium game with a story, live-service elements, and content updates.

Exoborne is primarily an open-world PvP game with PvE elements and a goal of collecting as much gear as you can before extracting. This is not a game that is focused on eliminating the other players to win, however, as the main goal is to survive long enough against the elements and your enemies to live to fight another day before you fall.

There are also no RPG mechanics, and instead, Exoborne will prioritize loadouts and advanced suits known as Exo-Rigs. These Exo-Rigs will each have their own abilities and playstyles, and the way to get more powerful is by using those Exo-Rigs and finding greater gear and building the perfect loadout for how you want to play.

Exoborne is a first-person shooter and verticality is key to gaining the upper hand on your enemies. This focus on verticality, complete with a grapple hook and parachute, aims to make exploration and combat a joy. It will also lead to some incredible moments like pushing a foe off a cliff into a tornado. Yes, the weather can be as much a weapon as a threat to you, and that also includes sinkholes and landslides.

The world of Exoborne will be filled with quests and story moments, and there will be public events that will draw many players together for an epic and deadly encounter. Furthermore, Exoborne can be played solo or with friends, and Sharkmob wants the experience to be a joy no matter how you play.

We Had the Chance to Stop the Apocalypse, But We Were Betrayed

Exoborne takes place on a near-future Earth where a catastrophic disaster was threatening all of our planet. While it hasn't been revealed what that disaster was yet, it was shared that humanity's last hope was something called Project Rebirth. This led to incredible technological advancements and megalithic STRATOS towers that were meant to stop whatever was coming.

Unfortunately, we were all betrayed, Project Rebirth failed, and the apocalypse arrived as we feared it would. This manifested in the form of elemental chaos that ravaged the Earth with tornados, storms, and more.

This is where we come in, as we will take on the role of survivors known as Reborn who are the last stand between a future for our species and total annihilation. Luckily, all Reborn have an implant that lets them use these Exo-Rigs, which each have their own unique abilities and skills.

Not all Reborn can be trusted, and players will have to scavenge, craft, and fight against these traitors when out in the open world called Colton County. In addition to Reborn, players will need to fight against bandits, Rebirth remnants, and forces of nature that will get their way.

As previousiy mentioned, Sharkmob has plans to build upon the foundation of Exoborne's 1.0 launch and continue to support it with story, content, and much more.

Sharkmob was formed back in 2018 and was built with some devs who worked on Tom Clancy's The Division and Hitman. Its first game was Bloodhunt, a battle royale game set in the Vampire: The Masquerade universe.

Bloodhunt is free-to-play and was released in 2022. In the battle royale, players control vampires who once lived in secret and would have to fight off other vampires and hunters from a group called The Entity by using supernatural powers and weapons.

While we don't know what it is yet, Sharkmob also shared it is working on a third game that will be announced in the future.
