LEGO Sets I’m Hoping Go on Sale for Black Friday

It’s November, which means holiday shopping season is right around the corner. Black Friday 2024 will be here before you know it, dropping prices on all categories of items. If someone on your gift list is into LEGO sets, you’re in luck, because you can absolutely count on seeing LEGO deals galore this month. But not all LEGO sets are created equal, and some are more sought-after than others. I’m the LEGO editor at IGN, so I follow the releases closely and know which ones to keep an eye on. Here are the LEGO sets I hope to see go on sale this Black Friday.

The Lord of the Rings Sets: Rivendell and Barad-dûr

LEGO used to release LEGO sets based on The Lord of the Rings when the movies were coming out in the early 2000s. Then the company just sort of stopped. That is, until last year, when LEGO released the huge (and hugely expensive) Rivendell set. It’s a glorious, ornate build comprised of over 6,000 pieces, and it comes with 15 minifigures of the entire fellowship of the Ring (and then some). Check out our LEGO Rivendell designer interview for more.

LEGO followed this up with the Barad-dûr set, which has you build Sauron’s dark tower. It’s similarly epic in scale, and priced accordingly. Since these are such awesome sets and have simply been out of many people’s price range since they released, I would love to see both sets come down in price for Black Friday, even if it’s only $60 or so.

LEGO Dune Atreides Royal Ornithopter

I don't know about you, but I'm still thinking about Dune: Part Two. With Dune: Prophecy starting this month on Max, it’s the perfect time to pick up the awesome LEGO Dune Atreides Royal Ornithopter. This set has you build one of the insect-like flying vehicles from the series. It’s a very cool build, and it comes with eight minifigures, including one of Baron Harkonnen that has him floating way up high.

LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts Castle: The Great Hall

If any LEGO partnership could be said to be oversaturated, it’s Harry Potter – new sets have been regularly coming out for two decades now. However, one of my absolute favorite LEGO sets of 2024 is this new Hogwarts Castle: The Great Hall set, and I’ll tell you why. It’s big, iconic, instantly recognizable, and filled with details from the books and movies.

But it’s also part of a new wave of Hogwarts Castle sets that’s modular. That means you can buy sets based on various parts of the magical campus, and once they’re all out, you can connect the sets together to create the biggest LEGO version of Hogwarts ever released. That’s such a cool idea, and I can’t wait to see what it looks like once the last set comes out and someone assembles the whole thing.

LEGO Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs' Cottage

The LEGO and Disney collab has produced a number of excellent sets, but perhaps my favorite goes back to the movie that started it all: Snow White. The set is Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs' Cottage, and it’s wonderfully colorful, with everything having rounded edges and looking somehow animated. It comes with minifigures for Snow White and all the dwarfs, and is generally a gorgeous take on the most important animated movie in Disney history.

LEGO Star Wars TIE Interceptor

If there are a lot of LEGO Harry Potter collabs out there, there are also a ton of LEGO Star Wars sets. One of my favorite recent ones is this LEGO TIE Interceptor, which came out to coincide with May the 4th this year. This Imperial ship looks long and sharp and menacing, just as it should, because it’s one of the Empire’s attack ships. We haven’t seen a discount on this one yet, so I’d love to see it go on sale for Black Friday 2024.
