When Gareth Edwards kicked off the MonsterVerse in 2014, it's no secret his Godzilla movie drew mixed reactions. Fans were torn over how long it took to fully showcase the giant lizard, but in time, the film became more accepted. The incendiary final act with Godzilla killing the MUTOs has a lot to play in this, as well as how neatly the ensuing films got stitched together. Kong: Skull Island brought the giant ape into play, while Godzilla: King of the Monsters set Kong and Godzilla on a collision course. From there, Godzilla vs. Kong had the lizard battling the ape to prove who was the alpha predator out of all the Titans.
