IGN can exclusively debut a new clip from Thursday’s episode of SpongeBob Squarepants. The clip can be watched via the player above or the embed below.
The clip features SpongeBob and Patrick Star, along with Sandy Cheeks, visiting an exhibition on Bikini Bottom’s “old timier days” reminiscent of the Wild West, including homages to the fifth season episode “Pest of the West.”
This episode, titled “Hysterical History,” premieres Thursday, July 18 at 5:00 p.m. ET/PT on Nickelodeon. “Hysterical History” is one of a series of all-new episodes that debuted this month and will continue to roll out through the rest of the year.
These episodes will feature, according to the official synopsis, “Easter eggs and nods to fan-favorite moments. … Viewers will catch up with former jellyfishing champion Kevin C. Cucumber, journey through different eras of Bikini Bottom, travel 2000 years into the future with Plankton, and more.”
These specially-produced all-new episodes are among the many plans Nickelodeon has in store to honor SpongeBob Squarepants’ 25th anniversary. The studio will go big with SpongeBob at this month’s San Diego Comic-Con, including the unveiling of an immersive larger-than-life tribute to the original pilot episode.
Nick’s 1,800 square-foot booth (#4113) on the convention center floor will “re-create and transport fans into the ‘Help Wanted’ episode with 3D-animation, augmented reality (AR) and replicas of SpongeBob’s pineapple home, The Krusty Krab and the Barg’N-Mart.”
