Disney has released the first trailer for X-Men '97 and confirmed a March 20, 2024 release date on Disney Plus.

The trailer reveals how the X-Men pick up the pieces following the apparent death of Professor X at the end of the original, much-loved ‘90s animated show.

Several original cast members return, including Cyclops, Wolverine, Gambit, Storm, Bishop, Beast, and Rogue. In Professor X’s absence, Cyclops appears to be in charge, until Magneto turns up with a claim on everything Charles Xavier owned.

It's worth noting X-Men '97 is getting a prequel comic also debuting March 27, 2024. The X-Men '97 comic is written by Steve Foxe and drawn by Salva Espin. Foxe and Espin previously collaborated on X-Men '92: House of XCII, a series that explores a universe where the events of 2019's House of X play out with the cast of X-Men: The Animated Series. Foxe has also penned recent X-books like Dark X-Men and Dead X-Men. The X-Men '97 comic is designed to bridge the gap between the original animated series and its upcoming revival, teasing new revelations about characters like Wolverine, Storm and Jubilee.

X-Men '97 comes out ahead of Deadpool and Wolverine, the MCU’s only movie set for release this year. For more, check out 5 Things We Learned about X-Men '97 at Comic-Con 2023, or the X-Men Manga getting reprinted with a deluxe remastered edition.
