Silent protagonists were part and parcel of early gaming due to technical limitations and player immersion, and The Legend of Zelda's Link is the most famous silent hero there is. After Breath of the Wild didn't let the player change his name, though, it's fair to say Link is considered his own character rather than the player's vessel. Link's not silent so he can be a player stand-in; he's silent because he's Link. But as a man of few words, does Link still show enough personality to stand as a character (or, due to the nature of the Zelda timeline, characters) on his own?
