Kickstarter, the popular website used to crowdfund projects, announced it is introducing a new policy on artificial intelligence.
We’ve been paying attention to the conversation about AI. Today, we’re announcing an AI policy, shaped by feedback from our creators and backers, that directly lays out how we’ll approach Kickstarter projects that involve AI. https://t.co/fYuirSfyOL

Starting on August 29, a new AI policy will roll out that focuses on providing transparency if a project being funded on Kickstarter is implementing artificial intelligence tools in some capacity, such as using AI to generate images or text or any AI software. According to the new policy, creators must disclose these details when a project is submitted, and if they fail to disclose, the project may face a possible suspension on Kickstarter. Projects submitted before August 29 will not be affected by the new policy change.
Kickstarter explained in its new blog post that to ensure AI transparency, it is introducing a new set of questions when submitting a project. Once the project is submitted and reviewed by the moderation team, the project will have a "Use of AI" section that will be visible on the project page.
The new AI policy is a direct follow-up to Kickstarter's previous thoughts on AI, released in December after months of consulting with its Community Advisory Council and input from others using the platform, such as backers and its staff.
Though artificial intelligence is nothing new, starting late last year and well into 2023, AI has become a buzzword across various industries, including games.
