The 2023 X-Men: Hellfire Gala event comic (by Gary Duggan, Adam Kubert, Luciano Vecchio, Matteo Lolli, Javier Pina, Russell Dauterman, Rubens B. Silva, Joshua Cassara, Kris Anka, Pepe Larrez, Rain Beredo, Ceci De La Cruz, Matthew Wilson, Erick Arciniega and Marte Gracia) took an ugly turn when several superheroes were killed off as part of Orchis' false-flag operation against the mutants of Krakoa Island. This included the fan-favorite premier member of the X-Men, Iceman, who was last seen melting thanks to the supervillain Nimrod. Yet despite this lethal encounter, Iceman has reappeared in his own five-issue miniseries Astonishing Iceman ,alive and well.
