The director of PlayStation 5 exclusive Astro Bot has left the door open to a potential PC version but shut down any chance of it coming to Sony's virtual reality headset PlayStation VR2.

Nicolas Doucet was asked by MinnMax what he wants to say to PC players who are eager to play the modern PlayStation mascot's games on their platform. "We wanna hear from you," he said. "Absolutely, we want to hear from you."

Astro Bot is only confirmed for PS5 so far but so were a hoard of other PlayStation exclusives now available on PC. Sony has made a point of expanding its player base and sales by bringing franchises such as The Last of Us, God of War, Spider-Man, and more to the platform.

Doucet made clear that, while Astro Bot may expand beyond PS5, it won't return to the robot's roots on PSVR. This isn't for any malicious reason, of course, but simply because building a "flat screen" game is very different to building one for virtual reality.

"No chance," Doucet said when asked if Astro Bot could come to PSVR2. "It's designed for a different medium. It would be a different game." Though the explanation makes sense, this likely won't be welcome news to purchasers of Sony's headset who are already frustrated over a lack of big games.

Arriving September 6, 2024, Astro Bot is a direct sequel to Astro's Playroom and looks to bring all its colorful platforming and more to a full-fledged game.

In our Astro Bot preview, IGN said: "Built on the foundation of Astro’s Playroom, Astro Bot seemed poised to elevate the Astro games into a league all their own, if they weren’t there already."
