James Gunn’s Superman promises a new take on DC’s Man of Steel, but it’ll also pay homage to the person who first brought the character to the big screen: Christopher Reeve.

As reported by Cleveland.com, the late actor’s son and real-life journalist, Will Reeve, was spotted on set during filming in Cleveland, Ohio (via Variety). It’s said he’ll appear in a fitting role where he plays a reporter. Christopher Reeve played Clark Kent/Superman in the 1978 live-action film as well as its three sequels before passing away in 2004. It’s unclear how big Reeve’s role in Gunn’s Superman is or how often he’ll appear.

IGN has reached out to DC for comment.

Reeve’s appearance will give fans of DC’s history an exciting cameo, but there are other classic characters from across the franchise who are also set to show up. Early set photos have revealed a first look at Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, for example, but we also know that Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner will show up in some form. They’ll join David Corenswet’s Superman, Rachel Brosnahan’s Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor, and more when the superhero film swoops into theaters July 11, 2025. More photos from Superman’s shoot in Ohio have also teased major locations like The Daily Planet, but Gunn says viewers don’t need to worry about any leaks ruining the fun ahead of its premiere.

Corenswet has a lot of weight to carry for DC. Superman marks a new beginning for the comic company, as it’s set to launch a rebooted DC movie universe known as the DCU. It all starts with its first chapter, Gods and Monsters, which includes new projects based on characters like Supergirl, Swamp Thing, Batman, Booster Gold, and more. Last week, a Green Lantern series titled Lanterns got the greenlight to move forward at HBO.
