Firefly star Alan Tudyk is already confirmed to play Doctor Phosphorus in James Gunn and Peter Safran's DCU opener Creature Commandos, but he's now confirmed to also be playing Clayface in the show, and maybe even in the Superman movie.
Tudyk told Rotton Tomatoes that Gunn asked him to play Clayface in Creature Commandos as he already played the character in Harley Quinn, though said the two versions are very different.
"I play Clayface in this series," Tudyk said plainly, noting that his Harley Quinn version is "an idiot." But "in this, Clayface is a killer. He's a homicidal maniac. So it's the same character. That's really cool about DC. I get to play the actual same character two completely different ways and I like them both. It's really nice that James let me play Clayface. I didn't even have to ask."
What makes his admission to playing Clayface in Creature Commandos even more interesting is that Tudyk is also all but confirmed to appear in the live-action Superman movie in a mystery role.
Deadline reported as such in September and Gunn himself all but said so at the Creature Commandos New York City Comic-Con Panel. Since he won't be playing Doctor Phosphorus in the film, and Gunn has already said he wants DCU actors playing the same roles across multiple projects, Clayface could be a likely option. Clayface can shape shift his appearance to anyone, however, so he and Doctor Phosphorus could be one and the same.
Superman otherwise stars David Corenswet as Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, María Gabriela as The Engineer, and more.
