Obi-Wan Kenobi director Deborah Chow has revealed Ewan McGregor pitched ideas for a potential second season of the Star Wars spin-off immediately after wrapping up the first season.

The creators of Obi-Wan Kenobi conceived it as a limited series that would only run for a single, standalone season, following the titular character on his post-Revenge of the Sith missions. However, McGregor had other ideas, which he divulged as soon as the cameras stopped rolling on the final chapter of the six-part series.

"As Ewan and I finished our very last shot on second unit, and I was literally taking off my headphones, he was already pitching me ideas for season two," Chow said while speaking to The Hollywood Reporter about the growing Star Wars franchise. "There's another 10 years with plenty of stories, and I don't think it's off the board. It is a 'never say never' situation, but we really did conceive this to be a limited series."

The Disney+ series saw McGregor return to his Star Wars role for the first time in 17 years, and he is not ready to hang up the Jedi robes yet. "I really hope we do another", he told British GQ shortly after the series aired its final episode last year. "If I could do one of these every now and again — I'd just be happy about it."

Fellow Obi-Wan star Vivien Lyra Blair, who played young Leia Organa in the series, revealed in June that McGregor had not tempered his enthusiasm for a second season and still wants to explore more stories, even though it's unlikely she would return for another season because it would be difficult to "fit" her into it.

"A lot of people are asking me, 'Will we get a second season of Obi-Wan?' " Blair said in a conversation with The Direct. "And, I honestly, I think it's very much a possibility because Ewan [McGregor] is just begging to do another one. He's really excited."

Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy previously confirmed Obi-Wan Season 2 is "not in active development", even though McGregor (and the fans) seem to want another season. "But I never say never because there's always the possibility. That show was so well-received, and [director] Deborah Chow did such a spectacular job."

The Obi-Wan Kenobi series received generally positive reviews from fans and critics, with IGN's own review praising McGregor for his performance and also his ability to drive the show forward "through a muddled middle third towards a thrilling conclusion worthy of making it onto the pantheon of great Star Wars moments".
