Mike Flanagan's The Fall of the House of Usher reimagines Edgar Allen Poe's works -- not only including allusions to the titular short story, but pulling material from Poe's other gothic tales. All eight episodes are named after and inspired by one of Poe's short stories. By deciding to include Poe's other literary works outside of simply "The Fall of the House of Usher," Flanagan is able to subvert audience expectations. Instead, through the show's many allusions and multifaceted plots, The Fall of the House of Usher pays homage to Poe's legacy by translating the eerie, supernatural madness and themes of Poe’s works with a modern twist.
