Coyote vs. Acme may see the light of day after all... just not via Warner Bros.

As first reported by Puck News on Monday, Warner Bros. Discovery has given the filmmakers behind Coyote vs. Acme the go-ahead to shop it to other studios, after the company decided not to release it despite having finished filming. IGN has also confirmed this with a source with knowledge of the situation.

Additionally, Deadline reported later on Monday that screenings are being set up for Prime Video, Apple, and Netflix this week in the hopes that one of those streamers might pick it up.

With last week's announcement, Coyote vs. Acme became the latest Warner Bros. near-complete Warner Bros. movie to be scrapped entirely, joining Batgirl and Scoob! Holiday Haunt. At the time, Warner Bros. said it was scrapping the film, developed as an original for Max, due to focus on theatrical releases; Rolling Stone reported that it was set to take a roughly $30 million tax write-off on it.

Upon hearing the news that the film was canceled, many took to the internet, mainly X/Twitter, to express disappointment in the decision. Filmmakers who had seen Coyote vs. Acme at early screenings praised it, with Scott Pilgrim co-creator BenDavid Grabinski going so far as to call it "the best of its kind since Roger Rabbit."

Coyote vs. Acme was announced in 2022 and is co-written by James Gunn and stars John Cena. The film focuses on Wile E. Coyote, who is represented by a down-on-his-luck attorney as the duo sues the Acme Corporation over its defective products.
