For four seasons, Doom Patrol was consistently one of TV's weirdest and most ambitious series. Its bizarre team of misfit superheroes faced off against everything from flatulent donkeys to zombie butts to an omnipotent community theater performer. No idea, it seems, was too strange for the writers of DC's unlikeliest adaptation. With such a lack of clear narrative constraints, many shows would have flown wildly off course. Keeping track of characters' internal lives can't be easy while trying to top the absurdity of the previous episode. Yet, incredibly, Doom Patrol managed to pull it off to such an impressive degree that its swan song, Season 4, Episode 12, "Done Patrol," was one of the most affecting and poignant series finales in recent memory.
