When Doctor Who was first conceived, it was meant to be a vehicle for educational programming about history. That went out the window pretty quickly, but like most science fiction and fantasy, it remains a vehicle for sociopolitical allegory about the modern world. The third 60th anniversary special "The Giggle" is perhaps one of Doctor Who's most political stories yet. From the villain with an extremely problematic past to the meta commentary it makes on the media, "The Giggle" is no joke. In a way, the notion the world has gone a little wonky isn't even fiction, especially with the way people respond to modern media.
