For my money, one of the coolest LEGO releases in recent years is the Temple of the Golden Idol set. It’s based on one of the most famous scenes in cinema history, the opening of Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark, in which our hero runs afoul of a giant boulder. It’s a thrilling and hilarious scene, and you can basically re-create it in its entirety with this LEGO set that includes traps from the film. The set normally runs $150, but right now Amazon has it on sale for $119.99, which is 20% off. Not bad.

The set (77015, for those who enjoy numbers) is comprised of 1,545 pieces, which is a pretty big build. It has a horizontal layout, like a side-scrolling video game, so it should fit nicely on a shelf, desk, or dresser for display. It includes four minifigures: Indiana Jones with hat and whip, Satipo, Belloq, and a Hovitos warrior. It also includes a placard with quotes from the movie that helps makes it look great if you put it on display.
And while it functions fantastically as a display piece, you can also channel your inner child and play with this set. Just like the scene that inspired it, this set has lots of hidden booby traps you to ensnare (or kill) our treasure-hunting hero. The back of the set has four knobs that let you interact with the set in various ways. You can collapse a wall, have Indie swing across a pit and, of course, have him chased by the boulder.
