As Christopher Nolan’s blockbuster biopic Oppenheimer inches toward $1 billion at the global box office, Universal has announced a release date for the film’s home release, which comes with a whopping three hours of special features.
Oppenheimer, which itself has a three-hour runtime, launches on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, DVD, and digital on November 22.
The special features list includes The Story of Our Time: The Making of Oppenheimer, a 70-minute film that showcases exclusive behind-the-scenes footage and extensive interviews with Nolan and his creative collaborators. It offers “unrestricted access inside the process, performances, effects, music and artistry responsible for this extraordinary film”, Universal said.
Also included is the NBC News companion documentary, To End All War: Oppenheimer and the Atomic Bomb, and a Trinity Anniversary Panel Discussion featuring a panel moderated by Emmy-winning journalist Chuck Todd, with Christopher Nolan; Nobel Prize winner Doctor Kip Throne; physicist Doctor Carlo Rovelli; Doctor Thom Mason, director of the Los Alamos National Laboratory; and Kai Bird, the Pulitzer Prize-winning co-author of American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer, on which the film is based.
The 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray discs include mixed 2.20 and 1.78 aspect ratios that let viewers experience the shift in aspect ratio as viewed in select theatrical locations.
Oppenheimer is currently sat on $942 million at the global box office. It launched alongside Barbie as part of the movie event of the year, dubbed Barbenheimer by fans. IGN’s Oppenheimer review returned a 10/10. “A full-tilt biopic unlike any before it, Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer is as stunning as it is terrifying,” we said.
