The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles became a pop culture phenomenon shortly after their creation in 1984 by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird. Created as a black and white underground comic that parodied Frank Miller's Daredevil run, the comics follow the brothers Raphael, Michaelangelo, Donatello and Leonardo. Along with their father and sensei, Splinter, the heroes are mutated turtles trained to become master ninjas.
