Marvel Comics may be best known these days for publishing superhero stories, but the company has a proud history of exploring many other genres like horror, war, crime and romance. That was especially true during the 1950's, a time before the Comics Code Authority and when Marvel was known as Atlas Comics. Now those classic Atlas-era stories are being curated by Fantagraphics and released in a new series of oversized hardcovers called The Atlas Comics Library.
Fittingly, the first of these new hardcovers, Adventures Into Terror Vol. 1, releases on Halloween and focuses on the classic horror series. IGN can exclusively debut a new preview of this volume, featuring Basil Wolverton's story "Where Monsters Dwell." The Atlas Comics Library No. 1: Adventures Into Terror Vol. 1 is edited by Dr. Michael J. Vassallo and features material restored by Allan Harvey. Other landmark stories featured in this first volume include Russ Heath's "The Brain and "Return of the Brain," Gene Colan's "House of Horror" and Don Rico's "The Torture Room."
The Atlas Comics Library No. 1: Adventures Into Terror Vol. 1 measures 8.8 by 11.3 inches and is priced at $34.99. The book is available in stores now, and you can preorder a copy below:
In other horror comics news, Matt Wagner and Kelley Jones are collaborating on a new series of Dracula graphic novels that reveal the origin story of the iconic villain, and Hollywood's Count Dracula is the subject of a new biography called Béla Lugosi: The Man Behind the Cape.
