It appears Warner Bros. Discovery is looking to leverage the Blue Beetle IP once more, as Deadline reports that a Blue Beetle animated TV show is reportedly in development.

Sources tell Deadline that The Casagrandes director Miguel Puga "has been working on the project since early this year" and is tapped to serve as the showrunner. Additionally, Good Trouble and The Fosters writer Cristian Martinez is serving as the series' writer. The show will apparently serve as a continuation of the Blue Beetle movie released last year,

A Blue Beetle movie was directed by Ángel Manuel Soto with Cobra Kai actor Xolo Maridueña starring as Jamie Reyes / Blue Beetle. The film was originally supposed to be made exclusively for the streaming service Max (then known as HBO Max) before Warner Bros. opted to give Blue Beetle a theatrical release.

Although Gunn has previously said that the film is not connected to the previous films found in the DC Extended Universe, he did say the movie could connect to his new DC Universe. However, exact details have been kept under wraps.

My colleague Alyssa Mora wrote in her review of the Blue Beetle movie: "Under Ángel Manuel Soto's direction, Blue Beetle is a superhero movie that sets itself apart within the bloated genre through the deeply connected bonds of Jaime and the Reyes family."
