Meta Quest 2, 3, and Pro owners can now beam HDMI devices such as game consoles, handheld PCs like the Steam Deck, and more into their headsets using the Meta Quest HDMI Link app.

The app is designed primarily to work with HDMI devices but is compatable with some smartphones too, though Meta came short of revealing which ones work.

The feature is reminsicent of Cinematic Mode on the PlayStation virtual reality headsets and of augmented reality glasses like Xreal Air 2 Ultra or the Lenovo Legion Glasses.

While the app itself is free, those looking to connect their devices also need a UVC and UAC-compatible 1080p capture card, though these can be purchased for as little as $20.

"Our goal is to once again enable you to connect your headset to a whole new category of devices," Meta said.

The company is continuing to expand the capabilities of the Quest headsets beyond strictly playing VR games. Over the last year, specifically, it has launched support for Xbox Cloud Gaming, added Laying Down Mode to Quest 2 and Pro models, and introduced Travel Mode, a feature that lets Quest owners use the headset while traveling, specifically on a plane ride.
