It's no secret that video game preservation is in a dire state, with most older titles being completely unplayable without owning an original (or pirated) copy. Although ports have kept plenty of beloved classics available on current consoles, niche titles are often forgotten and risk becoming lost media. A recent study by the Video Game History Foundation (VGHF) revealed that the situation is much worse than many would assume, with its research showing that 87% of video games released in the United States before 2010 are completely out of print.
