Screen Gems and PlayStation Productions have announced the first wave of cast members joining the film adaptation of Until Dawn.
As reported by Deadline, Until Dawn's film adaptation has an ensemble cast of rising stars, including The Chair and The Girl from Plainville actress Ella Rubin. In addition, Love, Victor, and Annabelle Come Home actor Michael Cimino, The Expats actress Ji-young Yoo, and Sitting in Bars with Cake actress Odessa A'zion have also signed on to star in the film.
"At PlayStation Productions, we are always looking to find creative and authentic ways to adapt our beloved games that our fans will enjoy," PlayStation Productions Head Asad Qizilbash told Deadline. "Alongside Screen Gems, we've assembled a fantastic cast of new characters that builds upon our already stellar filmmaking team and their vision for the adaptation. We're excited to reveal more about the movie soon."
Sony Pictures announced in January that a film based on the video game Until Dawn was in development. Lights Out and Shazam! director David F. Sandberg was tasked with directing the Until Dawn movie.
Until Dawn was a 2015 horror game for the PS4 developed by Supermassive Games set in a remote snowy mountain, it had players control eight friends who must survive the night after they realize they are not alone.
Though Until Dawn was not Supermassive's first project, it was the project that helped establish Supermassive Games as a studio known for crafting narrative-driven, choose-your-own-adventure horror games. Despite Until Dawn never getting a proper sequel, the series did spawn two PSVR spinoff games, and in 2022, Supermassive Games released The Quarry, a spiritual successor to Until Dawn. In addition, UK studio Ballistic Moon is working on a remaster of Until Dawn, which is slated to release sometime this fall for PS5 and PC.
