While keeping sight of important stakes, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 2 has been much lighter in tone than its preceding season, leaning into outright comedy on more than one occasion. This changes with the season's eighth episode, titled "Under the Cloak of War," a reminder of how intense and raw Strange New Worlds can be. Easily the darkest episode of the season and one of the darkest of the entire show, "Under the Cloak of War" puts its focus squarely on Joseph M'Benga.
