In 1963, audiences were first invited into the exciting sci-fi world of Doctor Who. Over the years, what started as a simple children's show on the BBC grew into a global phenomenon that attracted fans of all ages. The classic series lasted for 26 years, coming to an end in 1989, after seven different actors had stepped into the TARDIS as the Doctor. For a long time, it seemed as though Doctor Who might never return to screens, with the poorly received 1996 TV movie doing little to raise fans' hopes. In 2005, however, the efforts of showrunner Russell T Davies changed everything.
