Dungeons and Dragons has had an emphasis on narrative roleplay recently. Ever since the advent of Fifth Edition and the popularization of actual play series like Adventure Zone, Dimension 20, and Critical Role, D&D has become more friendly to those who want to run the game as a narrative and roleplay-heavy adventure. Fifth Edition aimed to strip down the bloat and more simulationist elements of the system to make it easier for beginners to play, but this also added more room for narrative and collaborative storytelling. More and more dungeon masters are expected to ensure that the adventure also serves as a satisfying story for each of the characters in a party.
