Silk: Spider Society Reportedly Had Its Writers Room 'Paused' Despite It Staying in 'Active Development'

Silk: Spider Society, the upcoming Prime Video Spider-Man spin-off series, has reportedly "paused" its writers room despite staying in "active development."

As reported by The Ankler, the writers who were part of the team on Silk: Spider Society are said to have been released to "pursue new work" while this pause is taking place. The showrunner will seemingly remain, however.

Silk was one of the shows at Amazon Studios that the Writers Guild of America was not too happy with as it didn't resume work after the Writers Strike ended, which puts them in violation of Article 7 of the WGA and the AMPTP’s Memorandum of Agreement.

The writers were then set to begin working again in January 2024, but they were then told of this pause just this past week. The Ankler's sources claim the Silk writers had been "a number of episodes deep into the season before the strike began" and that it may be being "refocused with a more male-skewing audience in mind." It's also said Angela Kang will remain on the project as showrunner.

For those unfamiliar, Silk is a heroine who was bitten by the same spider that turned Peter Parker into the Spider-Man we all know and love. Silk herself is the Korean-American heroine known as Cindy Moon and has actually made small appearances in Spider-Man: Homecoming and Avengers: Infinity War.

The series, which was originally planned to be a movie, will follow Cindy's origin story as she escapes imprisonment in an underground bunker, learns all about her powers, and looks to reunite with her family.

This news follows the release of another Spider-Man spin-off - Madame Web. Unfortunately, it hit a record low for Sony Spider-Man movies at the box office.

While not directly related to Silk, The Ankler also has been told that Nicolas Cage is in "serious talks" to star as Spider-Man Noir in the upcoming series following his time as the character in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
