The Western genre has, since the dawn of American cinema, provided some of the greatest stories the film industry has ever told. With many of these movies being based on novels and other media, the genre often combines themes of old-school justice, retribution, the morality of its era, and adventure. When combined, it makes for one of the most versatile genres there is, and has formed the subtle basis for some of the most successful projects in Hollywood today.
