Honestly, who could blame Captain America himself, Chris Evans, for wanting a bit of a break? The longtime Marvel star opened up to GQ in a recent profile where he revealed that he wants to act less in favor of just chilling out and smoking joints for the foreseeable future. An admirable goal, if I do say so myself.
“Now it’s really about, well: What time of year are we filming?” he told the outlet when discussing how he selects projects now, in an age where he wants to work less. “Am I gonna miss autumn? You know, I don’t want to miss autumn. I only have so many of them. … I could just make furniture for nobody and be happy,”
He added, “I like autonomous things. I’d like to just smoke a joint, put on some music, and like, get into pottery.” He even shouted out Seth Rogan’s handmade smoking accessories line, Houseplant, as an example of a positive hobby. “Seth Rogen, what he’s doing. It’s good for you, man,” Evans continued. “You just go to your workshop and make something. And how satisfying, how simple, how quotidian. I love acting, but you can’t act alone. I chose a profession that requires not just a lot of different artists, but it requires an audience.”
The superhero extraordinaire — who is also known for recent roles in Snowpiercer and Knives Out (check out our breakdown of his best movies here) — clearly is not only due for an extended break, but totally deserves one. When one considers the notion of “superhero fatigue,” they rarely consider it from the angle of the superhero themselves. But it isn’t easy being the good guy, and for as long as Evans has. He’s so tapped into a decompression headspace at this point, he even went on a little tangent about wishing he could have what his dog has: ignorance hand in hand with bliss.
“What he’s not thinking about is yesterday,” Evans said. “What he’s not worried about is tomorrow. He’s actively engaging in the moment in this really, really clean way. And this all feels a little basic, but he’s a little teacher, isn’t he? He’s like a little example of what we should be doing. And he’s just so honest, so pure, so good. He has no idea that I’m famous. He has no idea. And he can’t know, which is like this, it’s like an airtight thing. I mean, he’s famous and he’ll never know. He can’t, it’s like an impenetrable character trait. He can’t be corrupted.”
Give this dude and his dog a timeshare in the Bahamas and a daiquiri, stat.
