Darth Maul made a surprise return to Star Wars in 2018's Solo: A Star Wars Story. Prior to the Han Solo-centric film, the former Sith Lord made his first appearance in Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace. He also previously returned to the galaxy far, far away in the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, which revealed he had survived his encounter with Obi-Wan Kenobi on Naboo. The Clone Wars established Maul's involvement in the galaxy's criminal underworld and Solo expanded on this plot thread.
