If you have been itching to dust off your PS1 or PS2 but wish you could use a modern controller like a DualSense, you're in luck. 8BitDo's latest product is a dongle that will allow you to connect modern wireless controllers on Sony's first two PlayStation consoles.

The 8BitDo Retro Reciever for PlayStation is a little wireless receiver with the same grey color as the PS1 that connects to the controller port on the front of the PS1 and PS2. The device will be able to link modern controllers using Bluetooth. However, the device includes a USB-C port allowing an option to establish a wired connection between the gamepad and either console.

Alongside its versatility for working with the first two PlayStation home consoles, the dongle is also compatible with Windows 10 and 11 PCs.

8BitDo confirmed that the Retro Reciever for PlayStation works with newer PlayStation controllers like the DualSense. But you can also use the device with several of 8BitDo's controllers, Nintendo, and even Xbox controllers. Here's a full list of controllers compatible with the 8BitDo Retro Reciever for PlayStation:

  • DualShock 4
  • DualSense and DualSense Edge
  • Xbox Wireless Controller (both the Xbox One and Series X/S models)
  • Xbox Elite Series 2 and Core
  • Xbox Adaptive Controller
  • Wii U Pro and Switch Pro Controllers
  • 8BitDo Ultimate BluetoothPro 2, SN30 Pro+, SN30 Pro, SN30 Pro for Android, Lite 2, Lite SE, and Lite Controllers; Arcade Stick v3; PS1 Modkit and PS1 Classic Modkit

This is the latest retro receiver from 8BitDo, as the company previously made dongles allowing you to pair wireless modern controllers to work on older hardware, such as the NES and Sega Genesis.

The 8BitDo Retro Receiver for PS1 and PS2 is now available on 8BitDo's website and on Amazon for $24.99.
