Classic comic strip Bloom County is one of the most popular comics from the 1980s. The comic went on to inspire several spin-off comics, a range of children’s books, and an upcoming animated series. Bloom County’s most popular (and marketable) characters, Opus the Penguin and Bill the Cat, appeared on clothing, toys, greeting cards, and other merchandise around the world. Although the original series only ran throughout the 1980s, it remained beloved by fans who appreciated creator Berkeley Breathed’s irreverent humor and political satire. That support helped launch the return of Bloom County online in 2015.
