The Expanse series is one of the most enjoyable reads in modern sci-fi and thanks to Amazon’s current sale you can jump into the first three books for just $27.49. The sale itself is on a beautiful boxed set of the first trilogy of books in paperback, the perfect number for getting started. Of course, if you decide you love the books and want to continue, you’ll have to get the other six books individually — though Amazon has reduced the price of most of them by at least a few bucks as well.
For those unfamiliar, The Expanse is a cross between neo-noir and sci-fi. Set about 300 years in the future, long after humans have started colonizing the solar system, the destruction of a commercial transport spaceship sets off a string of crises and misunderstandings that put the whole human race at risk. Amid the calamity, one space ship crew has to sort out the mystery and save humanity. Each book tells a fairly contained story, and the first three absolutely fly by, zipping along thanks to the series’ fantastic cast of characters. Every book in the series is worth reading, but these first three are a particular treat for sci-fi fans.
And if you enjoy them enough, you can jump into the series’ TV show adaptation, which is also on Prime Video, at least for now.
