Disney revealed some big release date news today, dating The Mandalorian & Grogu, Toy Story 5, and Tron: Ares while delaying the live-action Moana by a year.

The moves carve out what's shaping up to be a busy summer 2026 for Disney, with The Mandalorian & Grogu set for May 22, 2026. Toy Story 5 will come out about a month later on June 19, 2026. Moana has been moved from June 27, 2025, to July 10, 2026.

Tron: Ares, meanwhile, will debut on October 20, 2025. The studio also dated Nightbitch, which stars Amy Adams as a woman who "becomes increasingly aware of the bizarre and undeniable signs that she may be turning into a canine," for a limited release on December 6, 2024. It additionally removed a movie previously dated for July 10, 2026 - the new date for Moana - from the calendar.

We first officially learned of Toy Story 5 in a February 2023 Disney earnings call, during which CEO Bob Iger casually revealed that the studio was working on that and sequels for Zootopia and Frozen. During a March 2024 earnings call, Iger revealed that both Toy Story 5 and Frozen 3 would be arriving in 2026, although we're still waiting on a release date for the latter. Disney hasn't revealed plot details for Toy Story 5, nor who from the series' voice cast might be returning (although Tim Allen previously said that Iger had reached out to both him and Tom Hanks to reprise their roles).

The Mandalorian & Grogu was surprisingly revealed this January, set to be directed by Jon Favreau. At the time, Lucasfilm said Mandalorian & Grogu would lead its "ongoing feature-development slate, including films helmed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, James Mangold, and Dave Filoni." After years of the Star Wars story continuing via TV shows on Disney+, The Mandalorian & Grogu will mark the franchise's first outing on the big screen since 2019's The Rise of Skywalker.

The live-action Moana will see Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson reprise his role as Maui, although Auli'i Cravalho won't be returning to play the title character, instead staying on board as an executive producer. The move does give the live-action remake some more room from the upcoming animated Moana sequel, which is set for release on November 27, 2024.
