Fans still sinking their teeth into the vast Dungeons and Dragons-inspired world of Baldur’s Gate 3 can expect even more updates in the future. Michael Douse, publishing director at Larian Studios, said that the big Patch 7, which added official support for mods and new evil endings, was not “the final update,” and that the developers will continue to work on the game, via a post on X.
Douse said that he doesn’t want to share any details on the next update due to concerns that it would put “undue pressure” on the development team, however, the developer assured players that, “there are things [the development team] said we’ll do that are still coming, and the chefs must cook.”
More Baldur’s Gate 3 should come as exciting news for a whole lot of people. Since its release in 2023, it has become a commercial and critical success. In August, the game won a Hugo, the premier award for narrative excellence in sci-fiction and fantasy media, and it scooped up all kinds of accolades at events like The Game Awards. Mods will allow fans to expand on its world, but it’s nice to know the team is still looking to add some additional improvements or content to the game given it will be the last game the team makes in the Baldur’s Gate series.
Last spring, Larian Studios founder Swen Vincke said that the development team wouldn’t release any DLC or expansions to the game. Additionally, he said that Larian Studios would not work on a sequel and that the next game from the studio would not be tied to Dungeons & Dragons. So given all this, it’s nice to know there are at least a few little treats that fans of Baldur’s Gate 3 can look forward to.
