The Office Star Craig Robinson Wants to Play Darryl in a Reboot, but Doesn't Know if It's Likely

Craig Robinson, who played Darryl Philbin in The Office, is up for reprising the role in a potential reboot but isn't sure if it's likely.

Robinson was asked by the AV Club if he'd heard anything about a potential reboot of the hit 2000s sitcom and joked he only hears about it while doing interviews.

"I heard that there was something going on. It hasn't been mentioned to me," Robinson said. "If it does, I would love to reprise Darryl at some point, but right now I don't know."

Chatter around a reboot of The Office — which starred Steve Carell as the nightmarish yet loveable boss Michael Scott and ended in 2013 — has been ongoing for a few years already, though co-creator Greg Daniels said in November 2023 that no spin-off or reboot talks are happening officially. He'd rather make a "sister show" instead of recasting the characters if there was though, perhaps leaving some wiggle room for a return of Darryl.

There is irony to this, of course, as The Office is a reboot and adaptation in itself, based on the UK show of the same name. The base characters and storylines in early seasons were largely based on the original show — David Brent became Michael Scott, Tim Canterbury became Jim Halpert, Gareth Keenan became Dwight Schrute, and so on — but the U.S. series became much more successful and eventually spanned 201 episodes compared to the original's 14.

The Office is also getting a female-led remake in Australia, with Prime Video creating the show starring standup comedian Felicity Ward, who will play the manager of packaging company Flinley Craddick.

Ryan Dinsdale is an IGN freelance reporter. He'll talk about The Witcher all day.
