In 1988, Die Hard took audiences by storm as it introduced Bruce Willis' John McClane, a New York cop forced to take on a heavily armed band of thieves at a Christmas party. After proving itself a strong hit at the box office, the movie gained its first sequel in 1990 and, from there, ballooned into a five-movie franchise, even landing some comics along the way. However, as the movies progressed, they started to lose more of what had made the first film so great.
