Anime is often at its best when it doesn't worry too much about making a lot of sense. Some of the best series of all time stand out because they are willing to go as over the top as possible to create an experience that has audiences on the edge of their seat, in tears, or both. That is the beauty of the medium, in many ways, that it can feel like a very "in the moment" style of storytelling and animation. If something doesn't gel together completely, it's okay as long as everyone is having a fantastic time and enjoying themselves. Pretty animation and a rocking soundtrack also tend to help in this regard.
