It looks like 2024 is shaping up to be the year of Dune. Not only has the release of Dune: Part Two been pushed to March 15, but a new LEGO set based on the sci-fi franchise has also been announced. LEGO’s Dune Atreides Royal Ornithopter set has just been announced, with a price tag of $164.99 and a release date of February 1, 2024. You can preorder it now (see it at Amazon).

The set is aimed at the 18+ crowd, which means the build process may be a bit difficult for kids, and the resulting set is intended for display instead of play. It’s composed of 1,369 pieces, and it looks somewhat delicate, mostly due to the eight blades sticking out of the aircraft.
Those blades fold out and support flapping movement, so you can display it either in flight or landing modes. The vehicle also features deployable landing gear and an opening cockpit, which sports enough room for a minifigure.

Speaking of minifigures, the set comes with eight characters based on their movie portrayals:

- Lady Jessica
- Gurney Halleck
- Chani
- Leto Atreides
- Liet Kynes
- Duncann Idaho
- Baron Harkonnen
The Baron minifigure is particularly impressive, as it comes with a tall clear stand and an imposingly long robe. That makes it look like his minifigure is floating, as the character in the books/movie does with belt suspensors.
It’s a great-looking LEGO set that should appeal to fans of the Dune series. And since it arrives six weeks before Dune: Part Two hits theaters, the timing couldn’t be better.
