The first trailer for A24's Heretic is here, giving a first look at the spine-chilling psychological horror that will make you question everything.
The footage serves up plenty of scares, but no blueberry pie, as Hugh Grant becomes A24's latest villain, Mr. Reed. He invites two young missionaries (Chloe East and Sophie Thatcher) into his sweet-scented home, but they soon discover all is not what it seems and become trapped in a deadly game of cat-and-mouse.
Several shots show the heinous homeowner getting crafty with miniature clay figures and a carved labyrinth not too dissimilar to the maze the youngsters find themselves imprisoned in. "I won't keep you if you wish to leave, but I want you to choose which door to go through based on your faith," Grant tells his guests in the trailer.
Heretic comes from the minds of writer-directors Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, who previously broke onto the scene with their script for John Krasinski's 2018 horror film A Quiet Place. The duo more recently teamed up for the Adam Driver-led dino survival film 65 and the big-screen adaptation of Stephen King's The Boogeyman.
Beck and Woods have produced the feature alongside Katie Aquino, Liliane Bedford, Julia Glausi, Kai Raka, Stacey Sher, and Jeanette Volturno. The team secured an interim agreement to keep working during the SAG-AFTRA strike without violation last year, which meant cameras started rolling on Heretic in Vancouver in October.
Heretic will open its doors to U.S. audiences on November 15 before rolling out in UK theaters on November 22.
