The Marvel Cinematic Universe shifted on its axis when Doctor Strange was blipped for five years because it meant that a new Sorcerer Supreme had to be chosen. Though Strange was the logical choice to replace the Ancient One, the role went to Wong as he had more than proven himself in the years since Thanos snapped his fingers. And this allowed Wong to make moves of his own.
