Warning: Full spoilers follow for Daredevil: Born Again Episodes 1 and 2.
Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 is officially coming to Disney+, and when it arrives, it’ll bring back Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page and Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson.
Marvel Head of Streaming, TV, and Animation Brad Winderbaum spoke about bringing back the fan-favorite characters from the series’ original Netflix run back for more during an interview with Brandon Davis. Confirmation of plans to see the actors reprise their roles follows the show’s two-episode premiere yesterday, March 4.
“Without going into spoiler territory, I will say that both Deborah and Elden are coming back for Season 2,” Winderbaum teased.
For Woll, a return to Daredevil: Born Again isn’t too surprising. Karen makes a few appearances in the show’s debut episode and, despite mentioning that she’s moved to the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s version of San Francisco, she’s expected to show up at least a few more times in Season 1. Confirmation that she’s set for more tense conversations with Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock should be comforting for those who tuned into the premiere, especially considering Henson’s Foggy Nelson isn’t quite as lucky.
Daredevil: Born Again’s first scene sees Matt’s longtime friend murdered by Benjamin Poindexter a.k.a. Bullseye. It’s a shocking start to the show, which picks up seven years following the original run’s cancelation, and it all happens within its first 15 minutes. Despite this brutal re-introduction to Hell’s Kitchen, Winderbaum says Henson will return in some capacity for Season 2.
“The story needed it to happen,” Winderbaum said when explaining how the Daredevil: Born Again team decided to kill off Foggy. “Matt, he had to struggle with his own internal demons in a way that only an event like that could bring about. It’s something that happens in the books. When you look at the source material, the cost of violence is something that drives him – and also challenges him. I will say, I see Karen and Foggy as being intrinsically tied to Matt. I don’t think there’s a Matt Murdock story without those two characters, and I’m excited to see them both in Season 2 as well.”
Daredevil: Born Again is just kicking off its nine-episode Season 1 run, so there’s no telling how the rest of the story will play out as Marvel plans out Season 2. In the meantime, you can check out our 8/10 review of the Season 1 premiere, where we said, “In Born Again, Marvel brings back Daredevil with the same winning formula as the Netflix show.” You can also check out our interview with Cox and Wilson Fisk actor Vincent D’Onofrio to learn more about how the two leads reacted to Episode 1’s cutthroat start.
