This year marks the 50th anniversary since Star Trek entered the animation medium with the premiere of the Emmy Award-winning Star Trek: The Animated Series in 1973. With Star Trek getting a resurgence, including new animated series like Star Trek: Lower Decks and Star Trek: Prodigy, CBS Studios is looking to commemorate the milestone anniversary in style with a series of animated shorts and a comic book through IDW Publishing, with art by Jonathan Case. Director Casper Kelly has created five animated shorts as part of Star Trek: The Animated Celebration, with franchise veterans Riker, Quark, Neelix, and Saru among those already confirmed. The shorts are expected to premiere later this year.
