September is shaping up to be another huge month for the comic book industry. With the Knight Terrors crossover finished, DC is kicking off major new series like Wonder Woman and Batman and Robin. Marvel, meanwhile, is relaunching the flagship Captain America and Daredevil comics, and they've got some killer creative talent lined up. All this, plus Wolverine is fighting the Predator.

Batman/Catwoman: The Gotham War
Creative Team: Chip Zdasrky, Tini Howard & Various Artists

Release Date: Throughout September
Batman and Catwoman almost got married a few years ago, but their relationship has soured of late. That's basically the premise behind The Gotham War, a new crossover that makes enemies of these former lovers all over again. As we've already seen in the opening chapter, Selina Kyle has a new vision for how crime should be handled in Gotham City. And even though Batman himself won't tolerate that vision, the rest of the Bat-family is more conflicted.
The crossover begins in the pages of Batman/Catwoman: The Gotham War - Battle Lines #1 before spinning out into the monthly Batman and Catwoman titles. This is a joint effort between writers Chip Zdarsky and Tini Howard, which alone is enough to make the crossover worth following. It should be interesting to see how this falling out impacts both titles over the long haul.
Batman and Robin #1
Creative Team: Joshua Williamson & Simone Di Meo
Publisher: DC
Release Date: September 12
We're previously explored why the Batman franchise is as strong now as it's ever been, and the debut of a new Batman and Robin series seems likely to add even more fuel to that fire. After spending the past several years in open conflict with one another, Bruce Wayne and his son Damian are finally reunited and ready to be a Dynamic Duo again. This renewed partnership comes just as a brand new villain begins plotting against the Dark Knight from the shadows.
Williamson has been killing it lately on the relaunched Superman series, so we're excited to see what he and artist Simone Di Meo can accomplish on a Bat-book. The goal here is to tell more short-form, fun stories set in Gotham City, so that may be just the ticket for those looking for something a bit different in the Bat-line.
Daredevil
Creative Team: Saladin Ahmed & Aaron Kuder
Publisher: Marvel
Release Date: September 13
No Marvel franchise has quite the reputation for consistent quality as Daredevil. That trend contineud with the recent conclusion of Chip Zdarsky and Marco Checchetto's Daredevil series, one which fundamentally altered the lives of Matt Murdock, Elektra and Kingpin. As always, the question is how the next creative team can hope to follow it up.
Fortunately, we have plenty of faith in writer Saladin Ahmed and artist Aaron Kuder. This is a strong pairing, and it's encouraging to see that the new team are looking to build on the fallout of the previous series rather than reset the usual status quo.
Wonder Woman
Creative Team: Tom King & Daniel Sampere
Publisher: DC
Release Date: September 19
Tom King is easily one of the best writers DC has in its stable, but he's become known mainly for penning self-contained 9-12-issue series rather than ongoing, monthly books. But for the first time since wrapping his Batman run in 2019, King is back on one of DC's flagship monthly titles. We're definitely excited to see what he has in store for Wonder Woman.
We've already gotten a taste of what this series holds in store thanks to Wonder Woman #800 and the introduction of Diana's daughter, Trinity. That twist alone is reason enough to be following the series. Coupled with gorgeous art from Dark Crisis' Daniel Sampere, and this relaunch is really looking like a winner.
Captain America
Creative Team: J. Michael Straczynski & Jesus Saiz
Publisher: Marvel
Release Date: September 20
We don't see writer J. Michael Straczynski dabbling in the Marvel Universe nearly as often as we did back in the early '00s. That's why it's so exciting to see him take the reins of Marvel's latest Captain America series, especially with the extremely talented Jesus Saiz along for the ride. This book will explore both the past and present for Steve Rogers, including revealing how the seeds of a superhero existed well before Steve was inducted into Project: Rebirth.
Straczynski radically redefined both Spider-Man and Thor during his respective tenures with those characters. We're hoping he can do the same for Cap now.
Rare Flavours
Creative Team: Ram V & Felipe Andrade
Publisher: BOOM! Studios
Release Date: September 20
Ram V and Felipe Andrade made a strong impression together on their 2021 graphic novel The Many Deaths of Laila Starr. The fact that they're finally reuniting for a followup project is all the reason we need to check out Rare Flavours. This new BOOM! Studios series focuses on a Rakshasa (a Hindu demon) named Rubin who yearns to become the next Anthony Bourdain. He enlists a struggling filmmaker named Mo to chronicle his travels, but as you might expect, there's a lot more to Rubin's quest than meets the eye.
Other Books to Watch
Birds of Prey
DC is bringing back the monthly Birds of Prey series, and this time the team has a few members we wouldn't have expected. That eclectic lineup, plus the strong creative team of writer Kelly Thompson and artist Leonardo Romero, has us eager to see what the new Birds of Prey has to offer. (September 5)
Hunt for the Skinwalker
Horror fans should take note of this new BOOM! Studios series, which is inspired by the 2005 nonfiction book Hunt For The Skinwalker: Science Confronts the Unexplained at a Remote Ranch in Utah. In Hunt for the Skinwalker, writer Zac Thompson and artist Valeria Burzo dramatize the strange goings-on at Gormon Ranch and the search for a very elusive supernatural monster. (September 6)
The Wedding of Tony Stark and Emma Frost
Wedding bells are ringing again in the Marvel Universe, but we can't say we ever expected Tony Stark and Emma Frost of all characters to tie the knot. This is shaping up to be a marriage of convenience, but that's not to say it won't have a profound effect on both characters. Look for this wedding to play out in the pages of X-Men #26 and The Invincible Iron Man #10. (September 6 & September 27)
Godzilla by James Stokoe HC
Writer artist James Stokoe crafted two of the finest Godzilla comics of the mdoern era in Godzilla: The Half-Century War and Godzilla In Hell. What Godzilla fan wouldn't want to see both stories collected into one lavish hardcover edition? (September 12)
Predator vs. Wolverine
Marvel has been publishing Alien and Predator comics for years now, but finally we're getting to see what happens when one of these iconic sci-fi monsters materializes in the Marvel Universe. Predator vs. Wolverine explores the decades-long feud between Logan and an especially persistent Yautja, with each new confrontation growing bloodier and more epic. (September 20)
Uncanny Spider-Man
What on Earth would possess Nightcrawler to rebrand himself as the "Uncanny Spider-Man"? In the wake of the destructive events of Hellfire Gala 2023, we have a pretty good idea of why, and we're eager to see how Kurt Wagner embraces his new role. This series is just the latest evolution of Si Spurrier's always entertaining X-Men work. (September 20)
The Flash
Wonder Woman isn't the only DC icon getting a big relaunch this month. DC is also kicking off a new Flash series written by Si Spurrier and drawn by Mike Deodato, Jr. That's not the creative team we would have expected for the Fastest Man Alive, and that's exactly what makes the new series so intriguing. (September 26)
Edenwood
Batman and Nocterra's Tony Daniel is both writing and drawing again as he spearheads a new series at Image Comics. Edenwood is set in an alternate reality US that's been ravaged by a war between witches and demons, leaving much of the Midwest replaced by a demonic hellscape. (September 27)
Rat Queens: Sisters, Warriors, Queens
Fans of Kurtis Wiebe and Roc Upchurch's Rat Queens are being given one final, parting gift in the form of Rat Queens: Sisters, Warriors, Queens. This one-shot finale special is set 10 years after the conclusion of the series, revealing what tragedy drove the Queens apart and what finally reunites them for one last adventure. (September 27)
