Amazon has announced its MrBeast reality competition series and confirmed an incredible $5 million single cash payout.
The series, called Beast Games, features 1000 contestants fronted by 25-year-old MrBeast, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson. MrBeast will serve as host and will executive produce, with Beast Games premiering exclusively on Prime Video. Amazon did not reveal a release window, or any other details, but insisted that with 1000 contestants vying for a single $5 million cash payout, MrBeast "is set to raise the stakes of his fast-paced and high-production format to make Beast Games the biggest reality competition series ever."
In January it was reported that MrBeast was close to finalizing a deal with Amazon for a show that would follow a similar format to his viral YouTube videos, which feature extreme challenges and large giveaways. The tentative deal was estimated to be around $100 million. MrBeast is the most-subscribed individual on YouTube, with over 245 million subscribers on his main channel.
“My goal is to make the greatest show possible and prove YouTubers and creators can succeed on other platforms,” said MrBeast. “Amazon gave me the creative control I need to try and make it happen. I hope to make the YouTube community proud.”
Some of MrBeast’s most popular videos include "$456,000 Squid Game in Real Life!", which sees 456 people battle it out in games recreated from the South Korean Netflix show Squid Game, "Last to Leave Circle Wins $500,000" which drops 100 contestants into a circle until one person remains to take the cash prize, and "$1 vs. $1,000,000 Hotel Room!", which is part of a series comparing different experiences at varying prices.
