Competitive play has been a major component of Pokémon for years now, as it brings the very best out of everybody's inner Pokémon Trainer. Since the competitive scene really took off in the early 2000s, it has evolved with the times, and now with the Gen IX games Scarlet & Violet, the Pokémon roster is as deep and rich as it has ever been. With Pokémon Home recently introducing even more familiar faces to this generation's competitive scene, a few persistent species keep appearing in teams despite the sheer variety of Pokémon available to trainers. Amoongus is one of the most surprising examples.
