Following the news that Jim Carrey will return as Dr. Robotnik, IGN can reveal that Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will also see the additions of Krysten Ritter, Alyla Browne, James Wolk, Sofia Pernas, Cristo Fernández, and Jorma Taccone to its cast.
While we still don't yet know who these newcomers will be playing, we do know they will join returning cast members Jim Carrey, Ben Schwartz, Lee Majdoub, Idris Elba, Colleen O’Shaughnessey, Tom Butler, James Marsden, and Tika Sumpter.
The new cast is led by Krysten Ritter, who previously starred as Jessica Jones in Marvel's Jessica Jones, Jane Margolis in Breaking Bad, and Chloe in Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23. As for who she plays in Sonic 3, there are rumors swirling that she may be the perfect candidate for Rouge the Bat.
Browne is the youngest of the bunch and was seen in The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart, Nine Perfect Strangers, and Three Thousand Years of Longing. She is also set to star as the younger Furiosa in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.
In regards to Browne's role, there is a decent chance she plays Sonic Adventure 2's Maria. This is made even more believeable when you take into consideration Shadow the Hedgehog looks to be the biggest new addition to the film, and the recently revealed logo is an homage to Sonic Adventure 2.
It's more unclear who the other actors play, but we do know Wolk previously lent his voice to Superman in Harley Quinn and played Joe Keene in Watchmen, Pernas was in Jane the Virgin and The Young and the Restless, Fernández starred as Dani Rojas in Ted Lasso and voiced Wheeljack in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, and Tacconne voiced Spider-Man '67 in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and Pee-Wee Herman in Weird: The Al Yankovic Story. Taccone is also a member of The Lonely Island and was the creator and writer of the MacGruber series and wrote Popstar: Never Stop Stopping.
One of the biggest remaining questions is who voices Shadow the Hedgehog in this third film, but we will have to wait to see if it's one of these new additions or someone else. What is clear, however, is that Sonic the Hedgehog 3 will be speeding into theaters on December 20, 2024.
