As Hollywood continues to get its post-strikes slates in order, Netflix has brought the hammer down on five series, including its fantasy drama Shadow and Bone.
In addition to Shadow and Bone, Netflix will also not move forward with Glamorous starring Kim Cattrall and animated series Agent Elvis, Farzar, and Captain Fall, IGN has confirmed. Deadline Hollywood first broke the news on Wednesday.
Per Deadline’s report, the decisions were at least partially based on weighing viewership against production cost. But, scheduling headaches in the wake of the strikes also played a role – now that the actors are off the picket lines and back on sets, much of Hollywood is scrambling to push projects back into production.
Shadow and Bone in particular was set up as potentially a fantasy franchise for Netflix, based on Leigh Bardugo’s popular Grishaverse novels. It’s the only series of today’s canceled shows to get more than one season, with its second having premiered this past March.
That said, Captain Fall’s 20-episode first season was planned to be split into two parts, with the first 10 episodes premiering in July. It’s currently unclear when the second batch of episodes will come out.
Agent Elvis, meanwhile, was a bit of an Archer-style animated series that brought to life Elvis Presley’s bizarre, actual desire to become a secret agent. IGN gave it a 7/10, with Jim Vejvoda calling it “a raucous, funny, and loving tribute to Elvis, the man, and his myth.”
Glamorous just premiered in June, starring Cattrall and YouTuber Miss Benny, a comedy-drama series focused on the beauty industry. Sci-fi animated series Farzar hit Netflix back in July 2022.
